In 1928,
Rod Stephens of Sparkman and Stephens fame, developed the
concept of the dorade box that was appropriately named after
his famous sailing yacht named
Dorade. Mariner's
has carried on the tradition of building dorades for pleasure
yachts.
In the animated drawing, you can visually see how both air
and bluewater enters the
Cowl Vent.
The air passes down through the
Dorade,
over the baffle and into the cabin space below. The bluewater
is trapped behind the baffle and drains through the weep holes.
